Problems playing mp4 and then avi

Jun

I decided to get to the bottom of the issue I was having with my bsplayer today. I couldn’t play mp4 files properly for a long time and I suspected an outdated ffdshow version. I found out it’s probably something in the order I installed it instead because my friend had an even older version and it played mp4 fine. However! When I installed the new version of ffdshow I could play mp4 fine but now I had a different problem: can’t play any avi (divx, xvid) anymore. Good, Great! How bothersome. It appears the top checkbox was left unchecked and that solved the problem for me:

So Filter Management, check the box where it says “Allow intermediate filters”.

TS conversion

I geeked and I found it. The primary reason why I wasn’t able to get the audio stream was because DVD2AVI is no longer developed and pretty old. It’s successor is: dgmpgdec156. To make a long story short I managed to get an AAC file from the project save done on this tool based on the old DVD2AVI. AAC can be played by my winamp and thus it can be written to disk as WAV. Hence, I could encode the two together in virtualdub as usual. I will make an attempt to write this down at Solstice Productions tutorials.

I also found a good tip for mp4 conversion (freeware): mp4cam2avi.
