I remember a post of mine about this. But since my archive only keeps to one year of history, I no longer have the post. I do remember distinctly that when Last.fm became popular the first thing I said was “Let’s see how long it takes for the information saved in their databases to end up in the hands of the RIAA“.
As such, last february it was mentioned on Techcrunch. Recently there was another article posted. I’m not sure how last.fm’s corporate structure works nowadays, but usually good enterprises will be bought by bigger companies who fuck up the entire thing one way or another. It seems last.fm has been bought by CBS in 2007. Not longer after, the great “redesign” was also implemented to much annoyance of users.
It’s the same as what happened to Youtube, actually. Now I’m not anti-google, but once the corp behind it is large enough, they begin to adhere to other companies and not the public; often turning to immoral and illegal actions.
I love to use last.fm but it looks like I’m going to use the french 3 strikes and you’re out approach. lol.
