Two new releases

It’s been a while since any of my favorites released something new, but here are another two!

SYBREED – The Pulse of Awakening
I must say this album is a little tamer compared to the previous two albums. Less “vocal abuse” lol. I usually need time to get used to a new album, so I won’t make any judgements yet. Antares could really get my blood flowing, I think the feeling is going to be different with this album but time will tell what kind of response it will get out of me.

Scar Symmetry – Dark Matter Dimensions
Scar Symmetry has some of the best guitar solo’s in the universe; so that’s what attracts me to this band most of all. Not to mention: louder than hell while still being melodic and a lot of vocal changes. Dark matter dimensions has the same formula ~ so I can’t be anything but really happy with this release.

Mercenary ‘disbands’

Lookie! That’s one of my favorite bands right there. You kind of knew something was up by the way the band was talking between songs at ProgPower last October. Finally we get to know what “getting too old” means;)

It’s not anything I’m too surprised about, in general metal bands have so many band members leaving and joining I don’t really care. I’m happy they didn’t release an album they couldn’t be behind. There’s nothing worse than to discover your favorite metal bands new album is shite compared to the long list of successes.

To Mercenary: good luck and hope to see any of you again, doing, whatever you’re doing lol.

Metal culture & metal places in Tokyo

Last time I was in Tokyo, we visited a metal shop somewhere in Shinjuku I think. That made me really curious about how the scene is there. It got me to the T0kyo Gig guide, which only lists 3 concerts (there’s probably more).  Some people seem to mention this club, though some say it’s mostly punk. There’s a BIG difference. Then I see a few places and I think “gosh, should be really hard to like this music over there“. Asian metal sucks just about as much as US metal (no offense). So I’m not exactly looking for live houses. Then I came across this one, which looks more like a bar type thing. The name has me doubting. But at least it says metal once in this months schedule. Now this is starting to look like what I mean.

It seems I was right about the RockInn, this site says “don’t ask for more extreme stuff, they don’t have it“. Either that list on the metaltraveller’s site is way not representative or Tokyo needs more metal hangouts. I would rather listen to house music than the softer “alternative, classic rock, rock” kind of stuff. That’s not tr00. Also: goth clubs or something are out of the question. They usually end up listening to something that’s between metal and electronic. I just hate to attach “Industrial” to goth because it does not make sense to me. Basically it’s boring house music as far as I’m concerned, though occasionally I like some of it.

Naw! I mean long hair, head banging, moshing. But not a joint where they play piggy squeel constantly. You know, that chaos that people call raw black metal or pure death. It’s not even music. Like, an entire evening of this I could not stand.

Saizou is their mascot!

If anyone reads this and knows a good metal hangout in Tokyo spill them piggy guts.

Random sunday

Talked a lot with Tonks today :D Actually, most of the day haha. SnowMyth came on for a bit and showed me BigBang (another KPOP boy band).

The blond one is really a chick. He doesn’t know it yet.

Spent the rest of today trying to figure out day plans for my trip to Japan. Got about 5 days fully planned. I’m pretty sure it’s wrong what they say about staying in Tokyo for too long. Do worry about the budget still. Mildly, not like yesterday.

Then I spent ages browsing Engrish.com. Look, made it to page 77. Infinite lols really.
