Engrish 1 on 1: Balinese Massage

It’s supposed to be published at Engrish.com I know. But this is what I found in the Hotel information.

“Defecate body inside”. Nom nom nom, sounds good. LOL.
Costmers, sounds like a supermarkt chain – doesn’t it?
Faicial. Sounded fecal.
… are following? Ano…

There’s even more wrong, but it’s not funny. What is funny, is that: THE MAN CAN ALSO USE IT. Please note small print: “There is no any sexual rejuvenation or adult-entertainment business in our salon”. Alrighty then.

Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower

I made it there XD. BTW I can see this Mori tower from my room as well. You could walk there and… probably get lost on the way because you can’t orientate when more concrete is in the way. Thus I took the subway.

Unfortunately the Sky Deck was closed due to the heavy winds. Safety first, safety first. *darnit* I took some great photo’s of the eh 360 view area which name I’ve already forgotten. I went through the Mori Museum too. Weird museum. Has pizza boxes on display.

Even though I’m like 1 block away from Roppongi, it truly is the meeting place for a lot of foreigners. You wouldn’t expect it, but ONE BLOCK, is all it takes to separate the more ‘foreigner friendly’ Tokyo from the ‘less foreigner friendly’ Tokyo. Thank God for the Hyatt attached to that complex, because the service revolves around foreigners really. Unfortunately, their room rates aren’t exactly on my budget so I’m stuck with a small Subway ride. Considering the view and the space of this room, I don’t think there’s many places like this in Tokyo bookable and doable for foreigners without costing an arm and a leg. It still cost an arm and a leg, but comparing to the Hyatt for instance, there’s no way I could afford it. Once a Dutchmen, always a Dutchmen (that was self-humor, you may laffs).

Tokyo bird's eye

Tokyo bird's eye

Oh soz! I met some french people in the elevator yah. “Vous parlez francais?”. I said “Non, pays bas”. I admit I was too shy to do a “Je suis une baguette”. French would also have less of a problem with the Japanese reluctance to communicate in different languages. They don’t do it either. In 2007 I was in Akihabara (electric town) and this 70 year old french lady was talking to a salesmen in this race-speed French wanting to buy something and this Japanese salesmen, totally not intimidated, he yapped back in Japanese full speed. It was also darndest clear they did not understand each other but neither of them wanted to admit that. lol. Useless.

I ate at a Sushi restaurant in that building. Full English menu, hurray!~ With the staff speaking that kind of English, they didn’t even need it. lol. Once a Dutchmen, always a Dutchmen (part deux). Anyways, had some cold sake for starters. I let the waitress recommend it to me because they had like 10 kinds. Then I ordered a ‘chef’s choice’. Do what you like pal, I’ll gobble it. In these kinds of places, I doubt the ‘chef’s choice’ ever changes. lol. I can’t show it to you because my camera battery went dead. Took some photo’s on my mom and dad’s cellphone though.

Then when I was going down the Roppongi subway station to get on the Oedo line again, I could swear I have just seen Ikuta Toma. I don’t know, I was thinking to myself “hey, kschwwiiiiiiiiiiing nicuuuuuuu” and then I take a look at his face and went “wtf, he looks like Toma”. It was just too short to spy the signature nose. What are you going to do? Run up the escalator going “Hey buddy, hey pal! Wait up. Let me take a good look at you.” I’m sure if I were a man, I’d get slapped in the face a lot. lol. Anyone got a good recent picture? You’d think I’d see Yamapi’s everywhere but nope, Toma’s it is.

p.s. Tokyo Tower is flaming orange today. Edit: they changed it now to BLUE. That’s right smarty pants-san. It’s not Queen’s Day yet. ASIF.

p.s. #2: a big bunch of emergency services came through again. I don’t know, where I’m from that gives you the serious willies. I have chicken skin everytime I hear it. Even more so, because some of the alarms here sound like our “warning system” which they test every 1st of the month at 12pm. For Tokyo it’s normal to hear it at least a dozen times a day but I just can’t get used to it. I always stand up from my chair to see where the sound is coming from.

Ambulance, coming through

Ambulance, coming through

Japanese ambulances are a hoot by the way. They’re white small vans with red lighting. The alarm goes off but there’s also one of the paramedics (always wearing a mouthcap) saying: “Please get out of the way” over a microphone. And I thought I had a problem when I had to drive my peugeot over some farm land to make way for the ambulance back home. Still a little homesick. Want to drive my peugeot over the country road doing 100km/h. XD. Speaking of which, I am starting to miss my Gouda.
