Correlation: none?

It’s funny how YamaGoldfish always let’s me think about topics. I read over text and at a certain point I’ll stop and think “Haaa? I’m not sure I understand the binary of this?“. Such was true with these two lines from the last Seventeen issue.

Images reflect thoughts. Therefore, if possible, it’s better to not carry bad images. They’re not fun and a waste of time, right? If one lives with positive thoughts, every day will certainly be more enjoyable, you’ll get closer to that point you’re aiming for, and various matters will proceed in a good direction.

Perhaps it’s because I have so much experience on the topic that I couldn’t match it up. Of course makes perfect sense to everyone else; everyone knows I’m a special case in a lot of things. For instance, I’m known to get a “mental image attack” that occurs sometimes that are like “flashes in my head” when I’m almost awake on Saturday and perhaps even Sunday morning. If you search on my blog you’ll find it (too lazy to link). It occurs only when I’ve told myself “not to be a pessimist” or “to keep up good faith” and more of these things. Your head might retaliate for that when you least expect it because it urges you that you need to process it. At least, I think that’s the reason. Why else am I shown these images when I’ve told myself over and over again “to think happy” if there is such a strong correlation between these two things? If you don’t have images that something is wrong, supposing there even is a link between mental images and thoughts, where exactly is the moment you are inspired to take action?

Another example is the death scare I had in September. At a certain point when you’re waiting to get that echo you can no longer deal with the negative thoughts that naturally accompany such an experience. So you suck it up, beat your chest and be brave. That is: up until the point you’re driving home and your body is letting you know it’s almost collapsing from the stress because you’re ignoring your mental state.

To not dwell on bad images is a good idea, ignoring them structurally a very bad idea. Not all decisions you will make in life are out of positive thoughts (not every situation has something positive to think about), but deciding does help to take the “bad images” away. This is what these mental images are telling you when you’re not hearing yourself out properly “because everything will be fine”. They say:

“Decide goddamnit, this is an intolerable situation and you have to take responsibility here.”
And in case of my death scare: “Seek medical care immediately and get the answer a.s.a.p. I can’t take this for any longer!”

In the end, it’s easier to live because you took responsibility, thus making it easier to live with your decisions because you have no reason to dwell on the past.

To pretend thought can control the images your head shows you, I think is naive. I know these are ideas prevelant in cognitive psychology but I don’t think they were ever meant to be interpreted that way by life-guru’s and the general public. There might even be things that can come from this that are more serious. Do not take psychosomatic symptoms or even illness that lightly. I can tell you this first hand, since one of my relatives is affected by it.

There’s been people in my life that didn’t understand my stance on this topic, quite frankly some point me out to be pessimistic by talking about my mental state when it’s not too rosy. I have seen people come back from that opinion, but that’s only when they are placed in the position where they have to give up the illusion of control. Fact is and will remain: by allowing these emotions in you actually can regain control of your direction.
